Here's the update. Lauren is still showing her independence and being very picky about eating. Yesterday Tami talked to the doctor at Johns Hopkins and his recommendation was to focus on getting her to eat and not to worry about the medicine at this point. Normally they will take a person off the medicine very gradually over a period of weeks. However, with Lauren's stubbornness with eating the doctor wants the focus to get her eating her food, so we have not been giving her her medications. Tami was up late last night working to create something that Lauren would eat for breakfast. She created a good waffle (really cream/egg mix) with maple flavored butter for syrup. Lauren saw the other kids eating and refused to eat her breakfast. So, as the doctor ordered, the meal was thrown away in front of her. (After all the work, this is so hard to do).
Also, Lauren has had seizures today. About 6 drops and 2-3 jerks. We are hoping this is just because of the quick withdrawal of the medicine and the fact that she hasn't eaten very much the last two days.
Well, at lunch time we prepared the egg/cream mix and microwaved this for Lauren. It creates a scramble egg like food. I was holding Lauren and Tami put the food in front of her without saying a word. For 10 minutes (as I sat in silence with Lauren on my lap) Lauren just sat there without moving towards the food. Then, she gradually picked up the fork and took a bite. She immediately looked over her shoulder to look at Tami in the kitchen. She was obviously very suspicious. She then took another bite and eventually ate her whole meal. She has been drinking water really well today. This was a positive for the day.
Lauren then ate her snack this afternoon and then had her dinner (same meal as lunch) without any problem. We even got her to eat her vitamin without issue. Seeing the seizures again today has been so difficult. However, we know that the diet and fine tuning can take up to several months. We are still hopeful. Each day is quite long but all worth it if the seizures will stop or become less.
