A couple of night ago we went out to eat to Chick-fil-a as family. On the Keto diet we have a program we have use to calculate her meals, they list a chicken nugget from chick-fil-a in the protien section. In over a year in a half we have never given her anything that seems "risky". We give her just plain chicken, beef, eggs for her protein. Everything is calculated to the gram so it should not matter what we give her as long as it is calculated. We have always been nervous to try anything new because of how sensitive Lauren has been, and some kids on the diet can't tolerate any "extra" additives or their seizures get worse. Well, it has been so hard with 5 other kids to always leave her out of everything we do involving food. So we went out to eat and I brought our scale and the right measurements of cream and butter along with us. We bought her a kids meal and I quickly took out her fries and measured 20 grams of nugget (which was about 2 small nuggets) and put them back in her little box and her drink of course was just water. It was so fun to see her eating those two little chicken nuggets, it has been 21 months of this diet of pretty plain food, she was so excited. It was a fun night!

Awww, that was so sweet! Thanks for sharing!

(Also, wow, what beautiful hair! She looks much older than in the photo on the sidebar. Time for an update?! :D)

I tried McDonald's nuggets once but she could hardly have any and there were so many carbs in them she couldn't have much else. I think she was only on 1100 calories, 4 meals a day then. Pre-diet she could throw back an entire McNugget Happy Meal. In fact I gave her on 2 days before she started the diet as a last "hurrah"
It so sweet to see her enjoy that nugget so much! I didn't realize you had 5 other kids! OH MY!

Fawn,
I agree we need a new picture. The one on the sidebar was taken right after her seizures started almost 2 years ago. I have been wondering how things are going with your daughter on the 5:1 ratio. Has it helped with the night seizures?

Jenny,
I agree about the amount for the chicken nuggets, it was a very small amount and she kept asking for more after. It was fun to see her enjoy it for the moment, but I think we pay for it in the long run. Since then she keeps thinking she should get food that everyone one else is getting! I hope you have luck with the Zonegran, we tried that one for awhile. Is your child still on the diet? If so it really took Lauren's appetite away which made doing the diet much harder. I was wondering if you had any experience with Dr. Tuxhorn's new nurse Amy since Martin left? You were so right about how good Martin was, last week he called and finished up doing some things for Lauren and said it was his last day. I have had some pretty frustrating things with Amy the new nurse. Have you had good luck with her? Thanks, Tami
